Alone no more - Blue hour

In my last posting of this tree Ole (mugge) asked to see some early morning shots of it and this was planned for time, weather and tide. Well, some things don't work out as you hoped.

A number of people were spread out near the incoming tide participating in some ritual in my field of view, my tide App did not coincide to what I had expected and the wind came up.

    No 1 - 47 mins before sunrise, 26mm, f/6.3, 30s, ISO100

Alone no more - Blue hour

Comments and suggestions welcome as always

Yes, tide tables are sometimes off by a few minutes but I only paid attention to those when planning when to get into the water while scuba diving off the west coast of Canada.

Definitely an interesting image, but I find that any of these back-lit scenes tough to nail. Your famous tree looks like it could use a touch of light painting. That would be sure to attract an even larger audience...

Or just apply light painting in post. I used the object selection tool in photoshop and a levels tool. To do it right, you'd have to clean up a few bits of sky that got selected, but it's do-able.

Thanks Peter. Sunset is on the 'to do' list but I'm also determined to get this early morning one with the water around the tree.

Light painting is one possible approach Manfred but fortunately with this scene there's a certain amount of light coming from some weak street lighting. The earlier the shot can be taken the greater advantage this is. Here's an unedited example of the earliest shot I took a few minutes before.

Not sure how I missed the balancing of the tree leaves luminance here Dan but I will correct it but use a mask based on the best RGB channel to isolate things.
