processing raw files in lightroom in windows

I have recently changed to a PC from Mac and find that i download from may camera into Lightroom, in raw format, bit windows will not keep original file. I can view my raw files, but not work on them. When i go back to them original file is missing.
    I use a panasonic lx100 11 which is RW2 files.
Have not found satisfactory answer on net.
    Any help appreciated.

I think this may be due to a LR setting. Go into LR...Preferences...General tab. Tick the checkbox "Treat jpeg files next to raw files as separate photos". You should now see your raw files in LR.

The raw files will still be in the folder where you placed them during the import into LR. Remember that the LR catalogue and the windows file/folder system are two distinct things. LR will not make changes to your files unless you specifically ask it to.... ie when removing a photo from the catalogue, LR gives you the option to delete from disc also. If you do not select "delete from disc" the file will remain in the folder even though you wont see it in LR.

    Hope this helps.

If you are importing from a card, make sure that you use the "Copy" option on Import. "Add" will add the links to the Catalogue, but leave the photos where they are.

Hope I'm not insulting your expertise, and welcome to Cambridge in Colour.
