My instinctive reaction to any "xxx of the year" is generally either "Now that's nice!" or "What kind of bad joke is this?" I leave you to guess what I felt about these.

[QUOTE=xpatUSA;756131]You liked the odd one or two but, more generally, "W-T-F" sprung to mind./QUOTE]
Correct. It was that mix as much as anything that prompted the post.
I didn't even like the odd one or two
And I thought it was just me! I think that there are two or three that I would have been pleased to have taken - but I'm not punting for photographer of the year.
What that monochrome hoopoe is about I have no idea, nor the comorant in the first one.
Perhaps they didnt have many entries ?
I thought the Silver Winners of Bird Behaviour and Birds in the Environment had merit. I thought the Garden and Urban Birds Bronze winner was one of the better ones shown.
However, compared to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards, this seemed pretty ordinary. The display was on here in Auckland for some months and just finished last weekend. Many of the images I saw there were, to me, breathtaking.
