    Predawn Abandoned house

I have not posted in a very long time, since the demise of tiny pics as I have been too busy and preoccupied to work out how to post without becoming a paying member of a photo hosting site. Soooo, this is an attempt to see if this works

    https://500px.com/photo/1020732687/k...-trevor-reeves

I do not see an image, but maybe the link is adequate?

Welcome back Bob. The link works. A pity that 500px seems not to allow the copying of the actual image location (URL) - otherwise you could have your image in the post view.

I tried just now but had to delete my previous post telling you how to do it - grump ...

    Thanks Ted
My tolerance for mucking about with to resize images is low, but I may see if there is a work around. Or if someone has an idea that would be great.

Trevor, I enjoyed what I enjoyed the pre-dawn house. It works well.

Was this taken when you were still living further north or down in one of the hotter areas of Canada?

Just to try the idea of pre-sharpening before posting here I put two images 2336px wide up on my web-site then linked to them from the CiC Posting Editor:

    As Is:
    Predawn Abandoned house

    Pre-sharpened:Predawn Abandoned house

See any difference between these two post views? (page up and down while not in Lightbox).

    Re: Predawn Abandoned house

It isn't just sharpness. There are over exposed areas in the first image which look perfectly normal in the second alternative.

Anyway, that link works OK, Trevor, and your image looks good to me.

A by-product of my sharpening technique in FastStone Viewer. Is there an implication that there is something wrong?

Anyway, that link works OK, Trevor
    Already said in post #2.

    Re: Predawn Abandoned house

    The link works fine Trevor.

The only thing I would add is that when posting to any website, use a resolution that is suitable for most viewers. With the increased popularity of 4k screens this can be difficult to judge.

I use a maximum of 1440 on the tall side as this is what my screen can show and it seems a good compromise.

The problems with using a full resolution image are:

    increased download times

you are relying on the viewers software to interpret the image rather than your own edit. This is important where your sharpening tools have been used, as these should be used with the image resolution in mind.

I can't actually see what resolution you posted to 500px. There is a reason people pay for good hosting sites like Flickr !

Sorry for the long delay in response. We just moved to Osoyoos (definitely a hotter area!) and have been entertaining a variety of in laws and out laws. The room I had reserved for photo processing and my computer is currently a guest bedroom so access is limited.

This was taken in NW Alberta, in winter 2019.

I can definitely see a difference. I will definitely have to add some ability to amend sizing and quality to images. Currently I am quite lazy and post at 100 quality and size to 500 px. Will have to educate myself on the ins and outs of image amendment to suit differing formats and sites.

As I said to Ted. I see some self education in my future about image manipulation to suit posting requirements.

Welcome back! I'm a bit surprised there have been no replies re how to post, but here's one way.

You can use flickr; a basic account is free but restricts the number of images you can post to 1000. Here's how to post from flickr to CIC:

Open the image and click on the icon as shown in this screen grab:

    Predawn Abandoned house

then click on BBCode on the window that opens and copy the BBCode text and paste into your post:

    Predawn Abandoned house

finally, delete all the text before and after the two pieces of "[img]" text

Yes, welcome back! When I saw the thread title I thought to myself "that's the kind of image Trevor used to make", and lo and behold.......

That is exactly what I need Free suits me entirely and I really appreciate the step by step advice with visual images. I think I can actually do this!

Consistency is my strong point, or more probably weak point. But now that I have moved to the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, I am going to be forced to add some new arrows to my quiver as there are few old buildings in the vicinity. And absolutely no wide prairie vistas.

Hate to complain, Bill, but the links/images aren't working on my machine. The HTML code for one of them is (scroll the gray bar to see the whole line of code):

    Code:
    <img src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50285354207_b3fac0977d_3k.jpg" alt="Predawn Abandoned  house" onload="HSImageResizer.createOn(this);" title="Predawn Abandoned  house" border="0">
I just get 'loading' going round and round for ever ...

If I right-click instead, up comes a smart-assed page that says "These aren't the droids you're looking for."

FlickR so often does something weird with it's highly protective 'live.staticflickr' server code.

Feedback from you is always welcome and never treated as a complaint!

I'm not sure where the problem lies - do you mean that the images posted here didn't look right or that when you tried to follow the instructions in flickr they didn't work - do you have a flickr account?

If the latter, Trevor seems to have been successful. Did you try with an image uploaded to flickr - the line of code you copied refers to Predawn Abandoned house"?

    Cheers

No images appeared on my screen, only links, and double-clicking the first link got me the 'loading' thing ... for ever.

    Predawn Abandoned house

or that when you tried to follow the instructions in flickr they didn't work - do you have a flickr account?
I don't have an account. Right-clicking the first link and selecting 'Open Link in New Tab' brought me this:

    Predawn Abandoned house

I can't upload stuff to FlickR but I pasted the following directly into my FireFox address bar:

    Code:
    https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50285354207_b3fac0977d_3k.jpg
And got the same smart-assed page as before.

Could it be that one must have a FlickR account to follow your post, in other words, when FlickR is accessed, it dives into your cookies and ... no cookie, no access?

I do have my FireFox security set to 'Strict' ... maybe that's it.

    Hi Bill,

I have the same issue with the Flickr links above.

    you said:
finally, delete all the text before and after the two pieces of "[img]" text
I used to post Flickr links like that, but if you read their T&Cs, you should leave their surrounding links in place to comply.

I wonder if the 'fiercely protective' people have got their code clever enough to identify when that has been removed?

Just a thought, something to try?

    Cheers,
    Dave

    That may explain things!

The instructions are for how to have CIC dispay an image that is in your flickr photostream.
