    Haynes Ranch Milky Way

Another trial to see if I can post to the Forums Thanks to Bill Tilstone for the advice

This was a stretch for me, I had never tried a shot of the Milky Way. Maybe someone more experienced can tell me if the noise in the foreground barn and grass is normal or acceptable for this image type.

Nice image... Welcome back.. I enjoy night sky images when they include a terrestrial subject also. Stars alone are quite boring to me...

    Your Barn images are fantastic
In this image if little light came from within the barn from a lamp or so, it would have been interesting, i feel....

I am pleased you think so (on both scores) I suspect the noise may be something I will have to live with as I do not have Photoshop to composite an image. Several non photographers have seen the image and approved of the noise. Called it "painted picture like" and "impressionistic" (which I hoped was not short and polite for nasty and weird). Good to have your imprimatur.

Thanks I was not sure a quick online scan of technique would carry me through.

Thank you. This may even get printed (at small size to avoid magnifying the noise)

Thanks Richard. It seemed I would never get back to posting. Retirement over the last 18 months has been a revelation that I am not good at time management; thought I was but it turned out that being a professional meant my days were quite rigourously scheduled

I agree about the need for a terrestrial anchor/reference point in most sky photography. I have done some aurora shots with no foreground and they are interesting studies but not good images.

A supplemental light source is a concept I have thought about, but so far have not taken the plunge. Lumecube seems like the option I may go with.

With the change in location I am being forced to amend my subject list. This is a good thing (I hope)
