    Toronto buildings in winter

Update of a shot I always liked, but was never 100% happy with. More time in post on this one to open up details.

A variety of different sized buildings, interesting skyline, and a three dimensional feel make this an excellent image.

Is there a selection issue in the sky immediately above the right corner of left-most building?

There is indeed. I missed that in my final image scan. Thanks for catching it. It has been corrected.

Sir, i have a humble request; if you had retained the OP and introduced the edited image anew, one gets the chance to see what has been pointed out and how adeptly you have edited that....

I like the colours and detail in this Manfred.

We had a couple of tall buildings underway in the city here last year, both now temporarily abandoned. One has started sinking and the Chinese builders of the other have not returned here since the start of Covid.

Not a problem. Here is the straight out of camera original. This image needed very little work. I mostly cropped, took care of perspective distortion issues and did some dodging and burning.

My first thought was that this looks like a "City of the Future" cover, from magazines like Popular Mechanics in the 1960"s, brought to life. Mainly due to the curves and roof lines; I think. Just need a flying car

Just my two cents worth. A very good image in my estimation.

    Re: Toronto buildings in winter

A very nice image. I do have a few suggestions, however. I think it's a bit hot, and the tonal differentiation between the buildings and sky is too small for my taste. I also think the concrete at bottom left detracts and that the bit of streetscape you would lose by cropping that out isn't much of a loss. To illustrate, I pulled the midtones down (setting the midpoint in a levels adjustment to 0.86), burned the two tall buildings somewhat and the one on the left less, and cropped. Are these directions worth pursuing?

    Re: Toronto buildings in winter

    Thanks for the comments Dan.

The image in #13 is quite similar to one I tried before; I personally prefer the wall to the truncated parts of the buildings on the right, which is why I ended up where I did.

In terms of dropping the mid-point, your image looks a touch dark on my screen, which is run at an output of 80 cd/ square meter and matches my print output when lit at 150 lux.

One more change I have made (and may roll back) is that I burned down the highlight running down the right-most tall tower.

I am going to print it today and will make my final call when I see the test prints.
