    Moonset/Sunrise C&C always welcome

Just a day off the full moon. The moon setting behind a low mountain ( or a high hill, one of those stony things on the horizon however you define it) just as the sun rises to illuminate the ridge top

    Moonset/Sunrise C&C always welcome

I like it . Make me want to howl. Not crazy about the dark foreground

I certainly had a problem deciding on how much dark shadow I wanted to retain. I toyed with various crops, finally settled on this as I decided I wanted to emphasize the sunrise illumination by keeping the shaded area fairly large. A judgement call all around.

Crop looks OK to my eyes, Trev.

I'd be inclined to darken that shadow quite a lot to make it more obvious ... a bit like in cliché Grand Canyon shots.

As a new layer/mask player, I'd likely up the contrast in the moon quite a lot too.

It is beautiful....the contrast between shaded and illumined area is a bit harsh...but that's what it looked like then, i think.

I rather like it as presented, but am sure there could be other valid crops and PP manipulations.

    I will toy with those.
My only concern with upping the contrast in the moon is loss of detail in the brighter areas, worth checking out though.

All a matter of preference. I often leave these for a day, or week or two, then come back. Oft times I wonder if I was deranged at the time.

Eventually I have to stop and settle on one. As I said to Nandakumar, I often need time and sober second thought to give myself and the image a break from overload.

I find that "stretching" a histogram in Levels (thereby increasing the contrast) can increase the apparent detail rather than losing it especially when lowering the black level of the image (by moving the black slider to the right) . Voila:

    Moonset/Sunrise C&C always welcome

Highlight levels were not changed at all. I did play with the mid-tone setting a bit ...

... and I accidentally got a blood moon into the bargain to match your rocks!
