Burnin' Sky (sun is on fire in California)

The fires out in California (once again!) provide some great conditions for photography.

I shot this one last evening out of my living room window with an older Nikon COOLPIX L810 grab-and-go camera at max zoom (who goes outside anymore, and especially when everything is on fire?).

Actually, I was not near any fire but they were still close enough to smoke up my area.

Of tragedy comes art. Great concept and execution.
I seem to be on some sort of crop fixation recently, so perhaps try a tighter crop to remove the partial tree to the right. A bit stronger image in my estimation.

I think your on to something Trevor. I would paint out the offending tree. Then I would crop out a bit of the right side to adjust the distance between the main tree and the edge of the frame.
I find the image to be visually interesting and eerie because of its story.

    Beautiful and yet terrifying.

    Thanks everyone!

Nandakumar: Yes, a roofline. Here is an unedited outtake. The sun was actually orange; this camera was recording it as pink. The tight zoom shots were more red overall.

Trevor: I did struggle a bit with the crop as I thought the same thing as you, though if the extra/distracting tree is removed, a bit of depth/context is lost. I wish the main tree was closer to the sun (or vice-versa), then maybe the loss of the extraneous tree wouldn't be noticed as much. But here we go – I agree it's better:

Tom: Indeed, but thankfully viewed from a distance, like this view just to the right of the other from some days ago.

My brothers are both in Northern California, pretty ugly there too. I think all of the west coast is on fire

Thanks Joe, here's another "through the window" shot from last night. The nuclear wiinter continues...
