Andre - take 2
I've finally had a bit of time to work on last week's photo shoot.
The horizontal band, the way I showed it, was too much of a distraction for some. I've tried to show more of the machine in this image so the red cover is less of a visual focal point. Is this working any better? Here I show more of the machine.

Re: Andre - take 2
I think it now becomes an advertisement for the big red machine and Andre is purely incidental. He is smaller than the machine and is dwarfed by the intense red colour. Maybe darken/mute the bright red and darken the silver foreground rollers etc so that he is more pronounced.

Not that I know anything about environmental portrait but this one works better for me than the first. Andre is more engaged with his work in this one and the big red "thing" now makes more sense. You might consider darkening the red slightly.

Difficult one Manfred.
I'm still preferring the previous version, but I wonder if that's because I know the machine and exactly what he's doing?

I still opt for both hands to be resting on top of the machine in one form or another. Andre would then be more deliberately engaged with the viewer.
