    Honkytonk

I spotted this old piano on one of our walks. It was just inside a property and I would have to open the gate to get a really good view of the piano. I had to twist my back to get the image. C&C most welcome

This is a really cool photo. The b&w serves it well. I can’t really offer and suggestions, but I do love it.I want to jump on a d start playing!

Now that is one old piano. I looked up the company that built it, and they went out of business in 1909!

There is a lot of interesting material in that shot. Why did you decide to crop it into a panorama format?

I think that the keyboard and the name of the piano is the important part. The panorama format was to emphasise that there is a keyboard there.

Makes me think about the people who gathered around it in song and laughter a long time ago. Nice shot.

Thanks Ole - the wider format does suite the subject, if the keys and name are key areas of your composition. For that to work well, I suspect it would have worked better of those parts of the piano were more central to the shot, rather than concentrated at the bottom left. Much of the right hand side is not really contributing to your subject, yet is occupies a significant part of the frame.

Working with what I have here, if it were my image, I would probably end up with something along these lines. If you have more of the left hand side of the piano in the original frame, I would probably try to include more of it.

I did apply a very strong vignette, something I rarely do. I thought it was appropriate in this case.
    Cheers Ole
