I wouldn't go overboard.It seems that technical questions in threads started by "most people" are frowned upon.
Speaking personally, I generally appreciate it when people bring up technical details. That's one reason I follow this forum: I learn a lot. However, sometimes a poster appears to be working through basic issues, and in those cases, I think getting into complex technical fine points can make it harder for the OP to get an answer that helps.
In this case, the bottom line is "diffraction will cause some softness if you close the aperture down a lot, but I wouldn't worry about this--even though many people will say you should worry--because the effects are relatively small and will be swamped by the effect of greater DOF." I probably should have stuck with that and left off the issue of differences among cameras.
However, I find it hard to know where to draw the line. For the most part, we are guessing about the expertise and interests of other participants on the forum.
