Neither of these images are working all that well for me, primarily because your main subject appears to be quite soft.

Image 1 - camera appears to have focused on the tree on the right side, not the monument. The whole composition is just too busy to be effective.

Image 2 - Again the monument is very soft. I suspect camera motion as a 1/20th second exposure at a 40mm focal length is likely to result in a considerable amount of camera movement.

I have to agree with Manfred's comment; generally both images appear to be lacking sharpness and disturbingly busy.....

I suspect the first one might work with a crop to something like 4 x 5 ratio and losing some of the right side.
