First Post - portrait from India

Hi there, as the title says, this is my first post on the forums as I have just signed up. I have been fairly inactive over the last few years as I sold all of my kit 8 years ago. I have only recently began to take photos again and rebuild my kit so here is an old one that I revisited whilst in lockdown here in Scotland. Hope you enjoy and please comment as it will aid me in my new found love of photography. Cheers, Ken

    Welcome to CiC, Ken.

Lovely image and it certainly brings back wonderful memories of photographing people in India. My daughter and family lived there for several years and had a large apartment that my wife and I stayed at while visiting. It is such a colourful place and people enjoy having their pictures taken.

Very nice portrait. I love her somewhat sternly soft expression. I bet she is quite an amazing woman.

Thanks Manfred. I was blown away by India and it's people. I had the most amazing time there and would love to go back sometime.

    Hi Sharon
She looks like a woman I would not like to cross.

Hi Ken, appears you are in a similar situation to myself and just coming back. Isn't it fun!

Great image. The smoke in the background for me even adds a little to the cultural side of this photo.

Really nice portrait... You nailed the exposure of the face. One of the problems that I have noticed in portraits of people from India is that the faces are often too dark. This results from a combination of factors, mainly their generally darker complexions and the harsh sunlight which casts dark shadows.

This portrait also looks a lot like a Roma (Gypsy) woman. Of course, the Roma People are said to have originated on the Indian Sub-Continent...
