I like the good eye contact. The colour temperature does not look right to me but that is only my opinion.
    Cheers Ole

Another excellent image, Martin. I really enjoy your environmental portraits.

I also agree with Ole; definitely a magenta colour cast in the image. I've played with the tint and added a bit more green (perhaps a hair too much), but that does give a more natural skin tone.

    Re: George

Thank you to Ole and Manfred for pointing out the magenta colour caste. I missed/didn't notice it. I have made the adjustments to my "master copy" and admit it does look better. Thank you.
.. and thank you to Judith and Sharon for you comments. George is one of those fellows who engages quite powerfully with his eyes.

I really like this image. It's well done and tells a very interesting story. It's a really excellent environmental portrait.

I agree about the color balance, but that's not uncommen and easy to fix.

If you have more material on the viewer's left, I might crop a little less tightly and leave a little more room to the right of the man's right side, but that's not something major.

Thanks for you comments Dan. I have had a quick look at the original file and there is a stack of white cardboard boxes just out of view on the left hand side of the image. That is why it is cropped so closely.

Sometimes the situation forces our hand. In any case, a great image.

    Re: George

A little off topic, but I've been thinking about the magenta cast. Casts on the magenta-green axis aren't all that rare, but I have usually seen the balance being too far in the magenta direction rather than the green direction. I've assumed that this must have something to do with the programming of auto white balance.

I'm curious how you shot this, particularly since you and I use the same camera, the Canon 5D Mark IV (which I love, to go even farther off topic). Did you use AWB? And what was the lighting? If I had to guess, I'd guess AWB and flourescent lighting of some sort.

Your image seems to make a real connection with the subject: which, to me is one of the acmes of portraiture...
