Thread: Absolution Required...

    GAS Nightmare

Oh goodness! I just woke up from the weirdest dream, all hot and bothered.
I really must stop watching movies like The Two Popes and browsing lens reviews before I snooze. The dream goes something like this:

Confession time, and I'm not even Catholic... Bless me Father, for I have sinned.

I have two R6 bodes, but find myself lusting after the extra MP of the R5 and even fantasizing over the thought of a possible R7 crop sensor to replace my beloved but ageing EOS 7DMkII. I imagine it having around 34MP, with all the knobs and dials of the R6 and dual SD card slots (Express CF cards are like Bitcoin, and I don't want to be needlessly extravagant after all).

I have the RF100-500 and the RF24-105 f/4 is on its way (after almost 4 months on order), and the plan is to get the RF10-24L f/4 when it is released, giving me a Holy Trinity (excuse the reference) covering a range of 10-500mm. That was a good and sensible plan, but after reading a whole slew of reviews, I went out and came home with the RF 24-240...

I am embarrassed and ashamed of my licentious behaviour...

I have started a fast (to be able to pay the credit card bill, actually) and am planning self-flagellation with some soft pasta strings that I shall eat afterwards - it's important not to waste food.
I have said multiple "Hail Canon"s for the last hour or so. :-(

Is that sufficient and can I go out and take some photos without guilt now?????

    That was scary...

All is forgiven, Trev, you may go forth and snap without fear of reprisal.

Life is but short, as you know, and in my experience the things I shall always regret are NOT the things that I have done but the things that I did NOT DO.

You have bought this beauteous 24-240 beast. Seems a shame to leave it in the box..........

    Blessings to you

PS And forget the self-flagellation bit too. Eat 5 chocolate hobnobs if you want a penance

    Trev,

I think that the only way to alleviate your guilt is to ship me one of your R6 bodies. I think this might be enough to eliminate the need for self-flagellation. Fasting is another matter.

Sorry Trev but absolution is denied. Your behaviour has exceeded the bounds of photographic decency and your extreme self indulgence can’t be condoned. You’ll certainly get no sympathy from me, I still have mild pangs of guilt after buying one 24-105 for my Sony a few months ago.

I suggest you contact your local “GAS Anonymous” group. They may be able to help with your problem.😉

    Good news for me indeed.
Someone has nailed a list of 95 new rumored lenses to the door of the cathedral!

I am switching religions so I can embrace a less painful divorce from my old EF gear!!! It may mean isolation and conflict, but I shall go with it nevertheless.

It may mean that my images are more rare and austere, but it's worth not having to do penance any more!!!!

Hi Dave: Just be assured that I also considered your advice and I contacted the local GAS board. They wanted to know know if I had a leak. I said I had one quite recently, and was feeling quite comfortable and thanked them for their concern. From there the conversation seemed to deteriorate somewhat before they rather tartly told me I needed to get counseling. I am just pursing that with the local City Council, but not making much headway there either...

Bo: I have taken your advice - for one thing it seems like the least pain - and am going to take the 24-240 on its inaugural trip (somewhere) to see if all this soulful stress has been worth it.
