XnView latest Search Tool
On my Dell 4-core running Windows 7 Pro, I use XnView to search among my image files which are scattered hither and yon. The good thing is that the search tool can be selected to search all sub-folders - unlike Photo Mechanic.
Unfortunately, with many many sub-folders, it would crash, losing all search results. So I downloaded the latest XnView and, lo, that problem has gone away.

Re: XnView latest Search Tool
interesting. I didn't know about this software. Apparently it's considered a competitor to Irfanview, which I have used for years. There are some websites that compare the two, but I haven't had time to look carefully.

Re: XnView latest Search Tool
Apparently, the latest version is now called 'XnView MP' and differs somewhat from the older "classic". In particular, the search engine GUI is improved and I was able to search for files with no copyright notice using "does not contain". That brings up all files in a folder and optionally all it's sub-folders, in other words files that I haven't applied IPTC to yet.
I continue to use Photo Mechanic for it's more comprehensive meta-data editing - in particular structured (heirarchical) key-words from my keyword database.
I also have an EXIF editor. It is a little better than Harvey's GUI which I only use for viewing meta-data.
Horses for courses, I say ...
