It's the other way round Colin. He prefers the light and the scenes in winter (or strictly, not summer). Add that he's a keen gardener and it all makes sense for him.

Obviously the judge you are referring to spends too much time in the spring and summer looking down at his garden and not enough time out looking at the beautiful scenery with lovely clouds that only occur at that time of year.

I am disinclined to judge the judge. It sounds to me like he knows what he is seeking, photographically speaking, which to me is kind of enviable.
