Geting a jump start on Springtime

While the temperature is moderate here in Southern California, I still get a jump start on my vegetables which I grow from seeds by starting them indoors. under lights...

Geting a jump start on Springtime

Growing vegetables from seeds costs a fraction of the price garden stores charge for young plants. I also have the opportunity to experiment with a greater variety of fruits and vegetables.

I will transplant these young plants to an outdoor raised bed as soon as the weather allows.

I will be starting several varieties of melons a bit later in the spring...

Just another of our hobbies during the pandemic...

BTW: these lights are low power consumption LED types and I also generate my own solar electricity which more than makes up for the power I use for the seedlings...

I do a similar thing, though mine are in a greenhouse in two heated propogators that have thermostatic temperature controls.
Using these allows me to start various fruit and vegetables from seed and also to bring Begonia and Dahlia corms back to life after they've been in storage over winter. It also overcomes the need to heat the whole of the greenhouse.

Here's a link to a YouTube video of the ones I have, turn off your speakers as the accompanying music is dreadful

We use heating pads to supplement our house temperature...
