    The things you learn

I liked this top-down view of the bird's folded wings and the contrast between its wings and the tree bark. I didn't know at the the time it is a White-breasted Nuthatch and I caught it doing one of the things that makes it notable, which is to walk down trees head-first. C&C welcome.

Thanks, Nanda. Not my best shots, but useful for the purposes of identification. I am starting to get serious about birding, and have started a couple of online courses, one on the birds of North America, and the other on the science of birds. I also joined ebird, which is an amazing database that will help me identify those birds known to frequent my chosen locations at various times of the year.

Nice shots Janis. I liked that you caught the Nuthatch doing its unusual walk down the tree.

Were these taken with the (new) D500?

Thanks, Bill. Yes, they were shot on a short walkabout with the D500. I have only had two outings with it so far, but am hoping to get out more starting this week.
