    Marcie A

This may well be the last photoshoot I do with Marcie, the streetwalker.
I love her rugged, weather-beaten look.
When I took this image she was wearing a black hoodie in the hope that the police wouldn't recognise her while she was out on the street. Two days after the shoot I had a message from her telling me she had moved interstate to avoid being arrested.

The image was taken in natural light, with the sun behind the green bush that forms the background to the image.
I had to clone out a lot of lens flare, but I love the image so, I believe, the hard work to remove it was worth the effort.

    Canon 5DMk iv, 1/100sec, F/4.0, ISO 100
    Lens: Canon 24 - 105mm F/4L IS USM @ 105mm

I like it well enough but there is a very strong magenta cast which can be removed quite easily.

No magenta cast here Ole; this looks like a skin condition called rosacea.

This issue can be exacerbated by alcohol, hot drink, hot or cold temperatures, exposure to the sun, etc. That being said, yes, they can be reduced in post, but "real life models" will use makeup (strong foundation) to cover up this skin issue. Something not we are going to see in street photography.

Another strong, well crafted image Martin. She certainly looks the part of having a very rough life with the wrinkled skin. If this scene was backlit, you have done a great job bringing out the textures and highlights.

Given her history, I don't know what her skin tone looks like, but the skin looks jaundiced.

One can see that it's not a magenta cast both by using the eyes for a WB adjustment and by imposing a magenta to green shift.

I think the skin color is exacerbated by the processing. It looks to me as though there has been a substantial saturation boost, and the image looks to be high in constrast. It's a bit hard to see at this small size. It's a striking image, but I think the net effect of those two factors--if that's what I'm seeing--is a bit garish and unsettling. Interestingly, while I was fiddling with the image in photoshop, my wife, who was sitting next to me, glanced over and said that she found the image disturbing. But she added that she guessed it's intentionally disturbing. Martin, was that your intent?

    Ole,

Rather than a cast as such, I wonder if some raw clipping is involved? It's right in the brightest lit areas - nose, this side of nose, lower lip an .exposed chest.

    Guillermo Luijck says:

"If you have ever experienced magenta tones in highlights when developing your RAWs, it is very likely that this is the explanation for the problem."

It's in Spanish, you'll need to Google translate if interested ..

Now there's three explanations for the "cast" ...

I'm going to be a bit pedantic here Ole and Ted.

A common definition of a colour cast is: "An unwanted color shift in the whole image".

If it doesn't affect the whole image, it's not a colour cast.

Indeed. That was the point of the two adjustments I tried. Had it been a color cast, the rest of the image would have improved as well. It deteriorated.

Indeed, hence the wording of my comment, "Rather than a cast as such." ...

Thank you Manfred. I was concerned that my screen needed to be recalibrated. These are the conditions under which Marcie works. We have a very hot and dry summer heat here and Marcie (being homeless) spends most of her life on the street hoping to earn enough to feed her insatiable heroin addiction.

Yes Dan, all my images of Marcie are intended to be "disturbing." I am glad it caught the attention of your wife.

I did have another look, Martin. All I gained was "cooling" Marcie's skin tones a tad when I attempted to "correct" colour temperature. Your version was the best.
