This is my first foray into gels.
I have attached the original very under exposed image for comparison.

I had a blue gel on camera left (7" standard reflector) and an orange gel on a gridded softbox on camera right (4' x 1'). There was a red gel on a speedlight behind Matthew pointed at a black backdrop.

The idea was to create a hard blue light and a soft orange fill light with some separation from the backdrop.

I've had limited success when using gelled lights and conquering that technique is still something on my "to do" list.

The two areas where I have had some success are in actual theatrical sessions where the lighting was done by someone other than me and in a case where I was doing a pro bono shoot and used gelled lights to match the white background I was using to match the colours and mood of the people I was photographing.

I find that the mix of cool and warm tones on your model's face are not working for me that well; sort of mixed messages. I suspect blue lights for both the key and main lights might have worked better. The lighting has to match the "story" and the image does not really tell enough of a story to give the viewer an understanding of the lighting work.

Interesting, yet the colors really don't seem to fit from my perspective the subject. Not sure I am clear enough.
