    An Old Friend Olympus XA

I was looking at a video on film photography on Youtube and the photographer mentioned he used an Olympus XA as his diary. So I went and found my old XA in its original case still clean and no fungus on the lens. It seemed to work well, so I loaded it with a roll of Kodak 400 CN which was sitting on the shelf unused for 20 years. The processing was C41 by a local shop, but it was just a trial to see if the XA still worked.
It is very old film not kept in a fridge and I exposed it at box speed. I like the scans....

Absolutely, your post brings back memories. I had an Olympus XA and it was my go-to camera for when I didn't want to carry an SLR. It took amazing images. Sadly, I lost mine when my car was broken into and it was stolen - it was in pristine condition. I still have a couple of the images taken with it.

About 3 years ago, I decided to buy another one as a keepsake and got the XA2, which did not have the same controls but works just as well. It too was in excellent condition and it lives in a pride of place with my other legacy gear as a keepsake.

My legacy gear included an OM1 and the XA until a few years ago when I tired of updating computer gear to stay up to date with my cameras. I now have the OM1 loaded with Fuji film and the XA loaded with Lomography Red as an experiment. I was always too formal to use Lomography in the past but now welcome the freedom. I think I shoot with film as much now as with digital and although I take a digital rangefinder with me everywhere I tend to pick up a film camera when I just go out to shoot without an end in mind.
