    River View

This is taken from a bridge over the Thames river in London Ontario.

I like the quasi symmetry in the picture, Joe. You might want to explore different crops to give more prominence to the stone work and the dramatic sky.

Nice shot Joe. I like the processing of the clouds.

I find there is too much sky and too much water for my taste and wonder if cropping to a pano format might we worth considering?

In reflection of Andre's and Manfred's comments I have changed the cropping of my post. Here it is:-

    I prefer Manfred's crop, Joe.

You have a nice sky there so don't be afraid of showing it off.

Your crop, in my opinion, is getting towards that dangerous area of half water and half sky.

Manfred's crop is closer to what I had in mind. However, I like the greater sense of depth that your pano brings. Very nice.

Thanks Geoff Appreciate that. I did not know about the' dangerous area'. Why is that? I was focused on making the composition a panoramic one and so sacrificed some sky to get there.

Thanks André. I do like the depth my crop gets. But maybe I could avoid cutting so much cloud out

    Re: River View

It is part of 'normal' basic composition advice, Joe. Like the 'rule of thirds' etc. So a half way horizon (including a false horizon) tends to split a scene into two with neither half being dominant.

However, like the rule of thirds, all rules are there to be broken so sometimes you can have a halfway division but with one half clearly being the stronger and more dominant half.

But it all comes down to deciding exactly what suits your personal taste.

I view the large expanse of water ripples in the foreground as a bit distracting so I would firstly crop from the bottom. Then I view the reflections as important and so would crop from the sides to bring out them, the stonework and the clouds which are really nice.

    River View

Looking at it as posted, I would also consider bringing in the side crops quite a bit more ...
