Dark Field Lighting experiment

I still have some ways to go, but it was too hot to go outside this afternoon, so I have spent some time experimenting with a technique called dark field lighting.

I'm getting closer, but not quite there yet...

I had to read up about it. Is that a technique used by high end products having a predominant dark background?
I am quite intrigued by this.

Sort of correct Ole. In dark field photography the transparent (or semi-transparent) subject is shot against a black background with the light set in such a way that the edges (of the glass) are lit and stand out from the background.

Thank you - I already understand the theory, Daniel. I'm trying to fine tune the technique now, something that usually very specific to the setup and subject matter. For example, in the top image, I've got the rim of the glasses well lit and they stand out, but one in the bottom image is not. I also don't like the way that the glasses appear to "float" on the table top so I have to work in a bit of a shadow to act as an "anchor".

A most instructive thread. We used to sell some glassware on ebay and I always found it quite difficult. Once I got a shot vaguely similar to Manfred's but entirely by accident.
