    Mt Arethusa - almost........

Image was made on a recent proposed day hike into the Misty Range. The intent was to access and photograph in a hanging valley at the foot of the mountain. However due to deteriorating weather and grizzly bear activity in the area the hike was terminated at the tree line at about 7000 ft.
As a compromise this was taken from the slopes of a rock glacier with the jagged peak of the 9500 ft Arethusa minutes before it was shrouded in mist and swirling cloud.

An interesting photo taken under adverse conditions! I'd never heard the term rock glacier before, but have now looked it up.

And having also looked up Misty Range, I see that it's in the Kananaskis area.

Thanks for taking the time to comment Bruce. This particular rock glacier is an accumulation of siltstone and shale eroded from the slopes of Mt. Rae. It has a depth of in excess of 5 metres and sits atop an ice mass that creeps down the slope at the rate of about 2cm a year.
Interestingly, the Kananaskis range was being surveyed in 1915/16 and Mt. Arethusa and 20 plus other peaks in the range are named for Royal Navy warships, admirals and the like, that participated in the Battle of Jutland in the First World War.
