Sony has released a couple of "professional grade" long primes aimed at pro sports photographers; especially in combination with the Sony A1 or A9ii cameras. Now, if Sony could finally release the baby A9 or Mini A1 as we were hoping for, Sony will have caught up with Canon cameras.
Tamron and Sigma have come out with some very nice and relatively reasonably priced long telephoto zoom lenses for Sony: 150-500mm and 150-600mm (which the buyer doesn't have to sell a kidney to purchase) but, the relatively slow apertures make these lenses not ideal for sports.
I'd love to see Tamron/Sigma introduce a relatively fast aperture long focal length prime lens like a 300mm or 400mm f/4; or even a longer f/2.8 but, the cost and size would be enormous) and there probably would not be a customer base large enough to justify producing lenses of that type,... When I was a Canon shooter, one of my favorite mid-priced lenses was the 300mm f/4L IS. It was a great combination with the Canon 7D Mark-2 APSC camera giving an equivalent 480mm f/4
