    Chilled Dip

    In September 2016, I was vacationing in Michigan. One evening I was enjoying the sunset at the beach in Eagle River, when this young man decided to test the chilly waters of Lake Superior. Thanks for looking.

    Initially I though this scene looked a bit flat and lacking in contrast but it looks a lot better with the alternative Lightbox view

    I wonder if it has something to do with how the tones are distributed in the image. In LR, the histogram looks good, and I use L*A*B readout which shows L values from 0 to 95+, so it seems to have good dynamic range overall.

    It is just the way images are displayed on this site, Scott. The basic view often looks a bit soft and lacking in contrast but clicking on the image brings up the original higher definition image which is usually much better quality. That is happening with this image and the alternative view shows the full contrast range and better sharpness
