    Meet Bell

Meet Bell, she's a 16-year-old barn cat from Massachusetts. She is very friendly with a mellow disposition. My daughter dropped her off so we can watch her for a few days. Comments on the photo and photographing pets welcomed.

Wonderful kitty portrait! Perfect engagement. Great detail, her whiskers are amazing. She looks just like a kitty we had, green eyes and all.
    Very well done.

Thank you, Sharon. Had the camera set to the Face, Eye, Body, Pet focus setting on my camera. Cropped, adjusted, and added a vignette. My daughter has only had her for about a year.

Marvelous portrait I love it! It is a bit bright on my monitor but, a global -25 brightness and +10 contrast adjustment in Photoshop worked for me. However, that would simply be my monitors rendition.

I like pet portraits when shot from the pet's eye level and with the pet's eyes in focus but, with the rest of the pet's head in focus also.
I think that if I was using one word to describe this image it would be "intense" as a result of the direct eye gaze!

Very well done. A good perspective: straight into the eyes! and an attractive cat.

I don't think it's too bright overall, but I think the (viewer's) right side is. I think the side lighting is effective, but the difference between the two sides is too great for my taste. A little dodging and burning gives this:

Dan's edit is great. I can now see why he did it, and it's an improvement on an already wonderful portrait.

Thank you Richard for your generous comment. I laughed in agreement with your one-word description, intense.

Dan, Great rendition. Thank you for showing me what is possible. Much appreciated.

+1 to Dan's comment and correction. The camera right side is too hot for my taste as well, but the camera left side is fine.

Side lighting can be very dramatic.

    Hello Richard,
Just confirmed with my daughter about Bell. She is 16. My daughter got her a year and a half ago. Bell was sick and the owners wanted to put her down. She was skinny and missing hair on her back. They were feeding her the cheapest dry cat food you can buy. My daughter took possession of her, changed her diet, and the cat got better.
