That's great macro shooting, especially the last one, terrific depth of field. What lens are you using ?
I remain fascinated by the difficulties resulting from the use of flash on dark but specular surfaces and the consequent lack of detail in such surfaces. I am not criticizing the use of the technique itself but I wondered if there were ways and means of getting around the effects thereof.
Since the scene gains a lot of DR from specular reflections - there is a class of functions that attempt bring such images into the range of say a normal monitor giving rise to the so-called "HDR" images. The GIMP offers four such functions under "Tone Mapping" and other Apps may do also. Here's the above image mapped by those functions at their default settings:
It is obvious that further work will improve each one and equally obvious that one is OTT - but the non-specular stuff does come up nicely and highlights do become less harsh, especially the Matiuk.
Of them all, I prefer the Matiuk 2006 but they are all adjustable to taste ...
