I too like the red glow from overhead clouds which are lit by a low but bright setting sun, especially when the sun itself is out of the frame. (I live in a woodland clearing and rarely see an actual sunset).

Raymond - these two images are underexposed. This is a common problem when the photographer points their camera at a bright light source like the sun. The other issue with this technique is that the other objects in the scene will be quite dark and can be a silhouette. The photographer has to maintain interest in those foreground / middle-ground areas, usually by opening up the shadows a bit so they are less "monolithic" and more refined.
