    Nature & Architecture from Orkney

Spent last week in Orkney. It was our first visit and I was hoping for some good bird shots but the birds had other ideas. However, Orkney is an incredible place and here are a few from the visit.

Yesnaby Castle: I think this is a much more impressive sea stack than the more well-known Old Man of Hoy

St Magnus Cathedral: The Cathedral, known as the 'Light in the North', was founded in 1137 by the Viking, Earl Rognvald, in honour of his uncle St Magnus who was martyred here. It was not easy to photograph as there is repair work taking place at the main emtrance and some Covid restrictions are still in place. I was lucky enough to be in Kirkwall just as the evening sun caught the spire.

The Italian Chapel: The story of this is something special and well worth a read.

Orkney is indeed magical. Many years since I was last there.

    Good images.

A great set of images Bill. These are in a part of the world that have always been on my "to do" list, but someplace I haven't quite managed to get to yet. Hopefully, once travel starts picking up again, we'll manage to get there.

    Great images.

On my bucket list too. Maybe a tossup: Orkney or the Faroe Islands. Not this year...

That first photo is brilliant. I would like to visit this place in person.
