An interesting set of photos in post #20.

In the second photo, which direction is the sea? Bottom left? I tried to use the direction that all the moored boats were pointing towards but that could be caused by wind, tide or river current – so I was none the wiser.

A little while ago I could click on one of my images and get all the exif details plus a map showing the shooting position but that doesn't seem to be working now. Pasting the image link into some exif software gives me the shooting details but not a map.

So here is a copy of a map with an arrow to show the shooting location.

Geoff, the estuary looks like a large and well protected body of water. When you were fishing commercially, is this where you kept your boat?

A little while ago I could click on one of my images and get all the exif details plus a map showing the shooting position but that doesn't seem to be working now.

I had that problem a while back. I'm using the Win/FireFox browser, and I fixed it by selecting another Viewer:



Works good for on-line images unless they're protected ...

Off-line, I use XnView MP.

That could be the problem, Ted. I checked my P Base settings and couldn't find any problems there. At one time I did have a Firefox extension which worked well but it was soon discontinued. Another good exif finder was difficult to use because you had to go through all the 'anti robot' checks every time you used it. At the moment, I am checking out a couple of options and the one you recommend looks like being the best.

If you look at that second image, Bruce, there is a red boat on the left side. That was my mooring. When I retired, the owner of that boat took over my mooring, store/workshop and most of my fishing gear. And he is a stepson of the person who was my crew. So it was almost like keeping it in the family.

Week 51 - A day of Sunshine and Clouds. Early morning rain cleared to sunshine which tempted me to a short local walk around part of the harbour; but some dark clouds soon appeared.

Geoff, I enjoyed all four images – particularly the first one. It has a number of gently curving lines and the balance between the two masses of ground colour works well. If it was my photo I might try cropping a bit from the bottom to see what it looks like but my guess is that I'd ultimately prefer the version you have presented here.

In the last two photos I was struck by how close the boats appeared to be to the muddy shoreline, presumably the bottom drops off fairly quickly?

When I saw the second photo, I was wondering if you were standing in the water or perhaps sitting in a boat since the camera appears to be very close to the water line!

Looks like you had nice weather for a walk to capture these four Geoff. I do like them all.

Regarding your thought on cropping the first image, I experimented by scrolling the image so that the nearest field right corner was at the bottom right of my screen.
As a suggested crop it sort of works, giving a diagonal line from the bottom right corner going left through the image. This line then meets another diagonal that then goes right through the image leading the eye to the stand of trees.

If you go to the second image of Week 50, there is a headland about the middle of that photo which was my shooting position for the second of this week's images.

The seabed shelves very steeply at low water. One step takes you from 3 inches to 3 feet and one more step means 30 feet. Wading is only recommended for the experienced.

With the first image this week, I think maybe crop the bottom to reduce the right hand side of the first field by half. Any more loses the impact of that area.

To finish my 2021 Project 52, I had a go at my town Christmas lights. Small town and the town centre is very quiet at this time of the year so at 6 pm I could set up my tripod in the middle of the road with no interruptions.

Like many coastal towns it has become chiefly a holiday home area so, along with many local residents, I live on the edge of the town and rarely go near the town centre nowadays.

An additional item for this month

I was replacing some repaired bird boxes today in a wood where I regularly record wildlife. It was a mixture of cloud with sunny spells and very sticky mud churned up by the self propelled one horsepower grass cutting machines.

Attractive photos, partly because of the sun and blue sky. I've always enjoyed bare oak and other tree branches against a blue sky.

I've just looked out our door at snow and cold arctic air that has made its way out to the coast.

Nicely pastoral and very interesting the difference in detail between shooting at 28mm and 60mm focal length!

Thanks for the replies.

I did wander around looking at angles for these shots and had to wait for the right hand horse to slowly graze its way into a better composition position.

That Canon 24-105 lens seems to be a bit unpredictable at times and can be slightly soft towards the 28 mm end. My Tamron 24-70 often gives better results but needs to be 'paired' with my 70-200 lens to give full size range options for general photography. But when carrying a couple of bird boxes plus a range of tools the extra length of 105 mm enables me to just carry one lens.

And somewhere around that area is a pair of my glasses which fell from a jacket side pocket. I tried to retrace my steps but couldn't find them so will have to look again next time I am there. Only a cheap (£12 pair) which were a year old so would have been due for replacement soon anyway.
