    Photoshop technique

I recently had an email from one of the photographers that I follow about a technique that gives you an abstract like image. It involves finding a subject that you can walk completely around and that is set back a bit from its surroundings. Then setting your lens to wide open you take shots at the same height and distance from the object as you walk completely around it.Then they are combined in Photoshop to give an almost abstract image of the subject.I would love to try this out but unfortunately deleted the email and can’t remember the name of the process.
Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Neil - could you post a link to the type of image you are asking about? It's hard to fathom what the technique might be from your description.

Wide open so as to blur the background, Neil?

The example that was used was a tree in the middle of a field, the photographer stood at a set distance from the tree, aperture wide open then took photos as he walked completely around the tree. These images where all combined in photoshop to give a blurred effect around the tree.Sadly I can't remember the technique used to combine them nor the name of the style.

    Thanks, Neil.

I already gave it a quick try yesterday with a cedar tree in my yard but it was getting dark and the lens on my camera only went open to f/3.5. I'll try it again some time with more light and an f/2.8.

I tried combining the images as layers with reduced opacity - the results were not encouraging, sad to say.
