Natural Amour
The Great Pyrenees was developed as a guardian dog for sheep in the Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain. AFSIK there are no coyotes in that area. The natural predators of sheep there are wolves and occasional bears. The mane of heavy fur around the Great Pyrenees neck helps protect the neck from the bite of a wolf. The protection of the mane is also often aided by a heavy leather collar.
It is difficult to reach Serena's neck through her mane of hair.
I saw one of my little dogs playing with Serena and hanging by the teeth from Serena's neck mane. Serena thought that was loads of fun
BTW: She is one-year old today and has developed into a wonderful companion and guardian.

Thank you - she is also very powerful! I suspect that way-way back in the past, there were some mastiff type genes introduced into the Great Pyrenees stock.
I was sitting in my reclining chair playing rope tug with Serena. All of a sudden, she was pulling me and the chair around the room.
