Dull Light Photography

Yesterday I had a few hours to waste while my car was having an MOT test so I went for a walk around the local estuary at low tide and with a dull overcast light.

So I had a go at a bit of photography to see if I could capture anything under those conditions. Careful selection of shooting angles and camera settings produced these results.

An angler fishing for flounders.



7D with Canon 24-105 lens. 1/200 F8 Iso 800. Merge of two bracketed exposures.

Around the corner, in another creek, there is a bridge.



Same camera settings

Two of the harbour authority workers were inspecting moorings.



1/160 F8 Iso 800. Merge of two conversions from a single Raw image

Looking in the opposite direction, more moorings were being checked.



1/250 F8 Iso 400. Merge of two bracketed exposures.

These aren't going to be prizewinners but at least I got something from the day.

And regarding location. Going back to the map in my Project 52 thread it was the point just above the West Charleton name, where the estuary divides into two branches; one going to Kingsbridge and the other into Bowcombe Creek

Nice work, I particularly like the last one. It gives you a feel for the day.

Good work. Nice to see "dull overcast" rendered as such with no attempt to dehaze, brighten up, etc etc.

Here in rural Texas, "The Inspection" takes about 5 minutes so no such opportunity for me!

There was quite a bit of contrast, saturation and dehaze adjustments on those images, Ted, but rather subtly applied to avoid any obvious 'over enhancement'.
