    Hard Core Knitting

This shot is one I took a few years ago, during our last trip to India.

I took this shot of a woman sitting outside of a shop in the town of Leh, Ladakh (population 31,000, altitude 3,524 m / 11,562 ft, outdoor temperature around -15 ºC / 5 ºF). Leh is in the Himalayas. The source of wool for her new project is the blanket that covers her knees; she is unraveling it. Her old blanket is getting smaller as her new work gets bigger. The whole scene just struck me as not something I was likely to see back home.

They say the eyes are the windows to our souls.
Even covered up you can see her smile :-). I wonder, what did you say to her to bring that grin.
    Nice capture!

I don't speak Ladakhi and she did not understand English. I pointed my camera at her and her eyes lit up and I took this shot; thats about as hard as it got.
