Isn't this the place that is touted as having the nastiest winter weather (winds, snow, etc.) of anyplace in the Continental USA?

I was up there in July some years ago. At the base it was 98 degs f. and at the peak it was 43 degs and winds with sustained gusts over 25 mph. I started the ascent riding in shorts & tank top. Upon my decent, I was sporting my full raingear.

Nice impression of depth as both the clouds and the heights recede into the distance. As to temperature change in one day, I remember long ago leaving Deadhorse, Alaska at minus 38F and arriving in Houston at plus 55F ...

Marvellous colours, textures, atmosphere and clouds, Jack. I also really like the faint trail leading gradually rightwards, disappears then re-emerges towards the centre.

A lovely image; i also feel if the top dark cloud and forground are removed, it will give a beautiful panoramic image too; just a thought

Happy memories of hiking in the white mountains and also in Vermont in the fall. Glorious.
A particular memory of MT Hunger in VT, we were advised to mark the trail we used when we got to the summit as there are several and getting back down to the bottom and finding no car is annoying at best and dangerous at worst. Glad we did as the mist closed in 10mins after getting to the top.
