    Photographers moving to Windows 11

I updated my Intel Skylake system (seven years old now) to Windows 11 but had one hitch I thought I would share.

My Nvidia graphics card (GTX 1060) greatly slowed down everything in Windows 11 until I updated the driver from Nvidia's website to a Windows 11 specific driver. Then everything worked fine.

Photoshop CC, DXO Photolab 5.1, Perfectly Clear, ON1, Capture One, Topaz Studio 2, ON1 NoNoise all work very well. I collect this stuff...crazy I know.

Are your colours viewed on the monitor 'exactly' the same when an image is open in ACR and then in Photoshop?

Looking at the colors in the LCD of my Z50 I see exactly the same tones in Camera Raw. My monitor (NEC EA275UHD) showing some age now...is calibrated using Datacolor Spyder and is 98% sRGB (+/-) and has been quite dependable. So, I suspect that my Windows 11 update retained the color data information saved in Windows. Nikon NX Studio shows the same colors brighter but this, I believe, is program specific.

Thanks, as another Nvidia GTX1060 user, that might be useful to know if I upgrade my current (early 2016) PC.

I ran Windows 10 using a third party interface which makes it look and perform like the old Win 7 (which I really liked). I will work with the present Win 11 that I have on an HP laptop that I recently purchased and see if I can get the hang of it...

Yes, I've wondered about the interface issue. I wonder if W11 can be made to look like W7.

Perhaps something like this can help:

When I was young(er) I used to customize my desktop with animation of fire-breathing dragon etc

Leo, thank you for the link. There's a 30 day free trial so I'll probably try it out.

Your post has definitely convinced me to make the switch! All the photo editing software you mentioned works well on Windows 11, that's great to hear. By the way, have you considered upgrading to Windows 11 Pro? I've heard it has some extra features that could be helpful for photographers like us. I'm definitely planning to when I upgrade. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
Hi Lizbeth, first of all, welcome to CiC!

I eventually upgraded to Windows 11 earlier this year. Everything has worked smoothly. I subsequently upgraded to Windows 11 Pro but my reasons for doing so were unrelated to photography.
