"Is it way too simple?"
Not to me.
I like the placement, too. Not strict rule-of-thirds and not dead in the middle. I'm thinking Golden Ratio - based on the plant area centroid ...

Agreed.......
Very nice.
I'd flip it on the vertical axis. For reasons often speculated about in this forum, th eright-to-left orientation often matters. I found this more appealing when flipped, with the stem closer to the left side and pointing to the right. Maybe it's just me.
Agree with the others, not at all too simple. Personally, while I like this, I would love to see the snow almost blown out, it would give a somewhat more abstract interpretation of the subject, but on its own, I really like this shot.
Thanks all for good comments. Initially, I did a flip but than thought it would be perhaps better to let the eye travel. Now, it seems that left-to-right would be better. Good point. Blowing out the snow-than it would not be the snow but also a good thought
Love it. Not too "simple"... beautiful
I like the image and strangely prefer a flipped version too, but cannot explain why.
I agree with Trev that the snow is a bit too grey for me. A quick adjustment of the levels highlight slider seemed the best. Brightens the snow but keeps the texture of it.
Looking again, I agree with Trev and Peter. A curve would give you more control over the tonal adjustment than a levels tool.
There has been a lot of speculation that our preference for the flipped version stems from our reading left-to-right and that people who read right-to-left--for example, in Arabic and Hebrew--would on average prefer the image as you posted it. I've never seen evidence about this. With access to enough subjects, this would be simple enough in principle to test, although it's complicated by the fact that English is a world language now, and many people who read right-to-left in their native language have a lot of experience reading left-to-right as well.
Flipped with blown background. It never crossed my mind to correlate reading and photo composition but will keep it in mind
