Hello Daniel,
The subject is a bit dark on a distractingly bright background.
I've been looking at Color Appearance Modeling lately (CIECAM02) which, in addition to local appearance, accounts also for surroundings, lighting, viewing device and stuff. And then using layer masks to independently adjust parts of an image.
Voila:
Your original at left. CIECAM02 adjustments at middle.
Adjusted further with masks at right. Background darkened. Brightness/Contrast applied to foreground only.
I like the "floating" appearance in the final result at right ... I am also aware of the halos in the final result !!
