Kingsbury Square, Wilton
This is Kingsbury Square in the heart of the Anglo Saxon town of Wilton.

Re: Kingsbury Square, Wilton
For a town centre location it looks quite neglected, Chris.

Re: Kingsbury Square, Wilton
Hi Philip - For a former capital of Wessex Wilton is small, more of a village than a town. Up to the Dissolution of the Monasteries Wilton was home to Wilton Abbey that included a large and important Convent located on what is now Wilton House. Following the dissolution in 1542 King Henry VIII gave the land to the 1st Earl of Pembroke who built Wilton House.
Many of the buildings in Wilton are very old and the green of Kingsbury Square appears to have been allowed to grow wild.

Re: Kingsbury Square, Wilton
Thank you for the extra info, Chris. If I lived in one of those fine old houses around the square, I'd be expecting the council to send round a few burly Anglo-Saxons with their scythes sharpened to tidy up the green!
Cheers.
Philip
