Very nice image Chris, some years ago I used to stay in a hotel near to the Cathedral, sadly never had time to have a look around it.

A magnificent building framed between the trees on a beautiful day.

Re: West Elevation of Winchester Cathedral
I would prefer the verticals to be vertical, sorry.

Re: West Elevation of Winchester Cathedral
The Cathedral looks pretty vertical to me Roy, perhaps its my poor eyesight.

Look at the war memorial and the house and chimney on the right and the buttress on the left. A definite convergence.

Re: West Elevation of Winchester Cathedral
Nice framing.
It's simple to correct the verticals, if that's more to your taste, although at the cost of having to crop in from the sides to elimate empty spaces in the bottom corners:
Most editing software can do this. I did it in Adobe Camera Raw by selecting "guided" under "geometry" and drawing lines along the outsides of the spires.
I wonder about time of day. Some of your images have the hard light and high contrast that comes with shooting between mid-morning and mid-afternoon. When did you shoot this? The EXIF data say about 1:40 PM, but that depends on the camera's time being set correctly. If that's right, you might try much later, say, 6:00 or even 7:00 this time of year (I don't know quite what the times would be where you are), and see what you think of the difference.

Re: West Elevation of Winchester Cathedral
With the positioning of the camera, would not one expect to see some perspective in the verticals rather than simply straight up and down?
Point being that the lens was 30mm on a full-frame camera so one might expect some perspective distortion as seen in the original image compared to a shot made with a so-called normal lens. Since the camera appears to have been pointed half-way up the building would it not be better to reduce the vertical perspective - but not to zero because that would imply an infinitely far vanishing point ...
