The high contrast works well with the subject.

Seems a bit more anchor than the the dory needs. But then i am not sure how strong the wind is in your neck of the woods.

I agree with both comments.

I've gone back to this a few times, and I'm sorry to say it doesn't work for me. The photo is really dominated by the large anchor. The dory is small and rather indistinct in terms of contrast, although as Geoff says, more appears when you enlarge it.

In addition to the size, look at where the tonal variation lies. The foregound--the rocks and anchors--span virtually the entire range from black to white, ranging in the areas I sampled from a value of 1, nearly pure black, to 95, which is close to pure white. The dory and the area around it have a much smaller tonal range, so the eye is naturally drawn to the foreground--an effect amplified by the large anchor.

Maybe this would have worked better with a longer focal length. That wouldn't deal with the contrast, but it might help with the relative size.

Reducing the amount of dark foreground is something which could be an alternative.

It works better for me when the image is cropped above the anchor, just enough to remove the bright sky, the distant shore, and the white line across the water.

Whilst I am pretty sure that all of the above comments are valid, John, IMHO, I like the tension between the big (huge) anchor and the small dinghy .
