    Newbie needing advice

    Hi all,

I am new to the CiC community, and not that familiar with my digital camera and in particular not got to grips with my new macro lens. I took a shot yesterday and would like some advice on how to improve the photo (of a flower) but am a bit baffled as to where to post it. Can anyone advise, please?

    Re: Newbie needing advice

Where, or how to post, Tim?

Information on posting images can be found here

HELP THREAD: How can I post images here?

We are fairly relaxed about which forum to use and just have a few general categories instead of a lot of complicated divisions. Have a look at where other people have posted similar subjects.

As Roy mentioned, Nature and architecture is a general thread, unless your flower is a pet.

Or for editing advice you could use this forum, or Image Post processing/Editing.

    Hello Tim
Post the (offending) picture in the nature and architecture forum and you'll get plenty of helpful comments. It would also be helpful if you could let people know what you're not happy with at the same time

I use a subscription service (Photobucket.com). Once you upload your photo to this site, it just a matter of copying, and pasting your image.

Posting the image for critique is ONE step. Additionally what assists greatly for detailed responses:

    The camera make and model
    The lens make and model
The shooting tech specs (Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO, AF Mode, Metering Mode, Camera Mode) - if these you do not know don't fret.
If you used a Tripod, Flash, etc
MOST IMPORTANTLY - tell us if you performed any Post Production using PP software, for example Photoshop etc... and if you did, then if you can also post the JPEG file, straight out of the camera, for comparison / contrast to your final image.

    Re: Newbie needing advice

Tim, there are lots of ways to post your image here. I use flickr, mainly because I post photos there for other reasons. If you don't know about it, just go to flickr.com and read the "Welcome" text. A basic account is free. Once you've posted an image there, to get it to CIC select the image in flickr and click on the curved arrow at the bottom right of your screen. This will open a "Share 1 photo to" box. There are 4 options - click on the BBCode one and set the desired image size using the dropdown (I don't know what the folks at CIC prefer but I use "Original" and it works fine). Now select and copy the text begining [url ...

Open the thread in CIC where you want to post the photo, tell us about it/give it a title, then paste what you copied from flickr There's a lot of "stuff" there but you only want the part that tells CIC where your photo is. To do this look for the text starting with [img and ending with img] and delete the rest (make sure you don't delete the starting and ending square brackets).

Thanks Bill, will try flickr as it's free. Thanks also for the details on how to post, I would never have figured all that out.
