    I agree with you on the background; it is a bit too distracting.

    I find a "spur of the moment" shot (a.k.a. grab shot) rarely turns out well, especially for a portrait. The lighting is not great here, the pose introduces unwanted wrinkles in the subject's neck and face. The gaze needs a bit more work too.
