    Minimalist

As the title says, I think that this must qualify as minimalist. Whether it is any good is another matter

Jim, a good photo is one you like**, and I like it.

** whereas a good competiton photo is one the judges like, even when you know they are wrong

Looks like two bites. I would call it Adam and Eve.

Albert Einstein once said "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler". While he was writing about scientific theories, I find that his words can often be applied to photographs as well.

I find that this minimalist image is a bit too simple. The subject apple is overpowered by the tile flooring. Crop out the top half of the image and I feel that the image will be stronger.

My reaction was similar to Manfed’s: I’d crop from he top enough to use the shape of the image and the lines to draw the eye to the Apple. Apart from that, I like it.

My first impression was to crop ,but after looking at it for a while I like all the negative space. It makes more of an artistic statement than the all too common "Perfect photograph"

    Re: Minimalist

To me it wants cropping from the top to a square format

Interesting dicussion on the cropping question. I'm on the "No"side here, cropping turns it into a photogrpah of an apple, leaving it in its original format addresses the title. The extra height (albeit soft at the top) adds to the bottom left to top right diagonal made by the layout of the paving stones (as does the orientation of the apple).

    Re: Minimalist

I wasn't suggesting a square crop or eliminating negative space. My suggesion was just to eliminate a modest amount of the top, for two reasons. First, the aspect ratio and placement of the apple draws the eye to the top, where I don't think it should go. Second, the lines, which serve nicely as leading lines, disappear at the top because of depth of field. So I would go with something roughly like this, which also roughly corresponds to the guideline of thirds:

    Minimalist

But it's all a matter of taste.

Indeed it is for apples and for composition. Nothing wrong with what you suggest and have shown here Dan but for once I'm going to have to break ranks with you and prefer the elongated version

Many thanks, all, for your comments and suggestions. Here are all the suggestions in the sequence they were made in the thread.
I am leaning towards the square one at the moment, but may yet change my mind. Funnily enough when I showed them to my wife she prefers the original.
