    I prefer the B&W for a few reasons. I think the bright colors in the color version pull the eye too much. the B&W leaves more attention on the wall and highlights the shapes of the men tracing from it.

    I also prefer the B&W version because it seems a more solemn recording.

    There were several instances at the Wall that would have been remarkable images but, I consciously made the decision not to shoot. Getting close (with the numbers of people at the Wall, I could not shoot from any distance) would have been an invasion of the privacy of the moment for the grieving vets.

    Now, if I might be shooting for another reason than my own enjoyment, I might have made another decision and captured the emotional moments...

    I agree: the mood is more appropriate in the B&W version. If the two vets had been wearing more muted colors, they difference might have been smaller.
