except that this is probably the best portrait shot I have seen in the last 12 months.

Maybe tone down the highlights in the face a touch.

My only suggestion, in hindsight, would be to have your model pull back her right hand, since being the closest thing to the lens, it has undue prominence due to the perspective.

I agree with Dave's suggestion - in fact both hands seem a bit too prominent in the composition, probably due to the use of a wide-angle lens. I'm not sure about the model's expression - it seems rather bland, not conveying any particular message or emotion - but I suppose that could be just my reading of the image.

Sorry, but it doesn't work for me. I also found the wide-angle distortion to be a problem, and I agree with Peter that the highlights in the face are too bright. maybe the issue there is just midtone contrast.

For everyone who does not like the exaggeration of the hands, I suggest you look up the work of the renowned Anglo-Greek photographer, Platon, who has been working out of New York City for some time. Wide angle portraits are his signature approach and he has photographed many well known figures using this approach.

I don't like his either. I've seen portraits where the hands were the intended focus, and in those cases, this makes sense to me. But in other cases, I find the exaggerated foreground both distracting and aesthetically unpleasant.

Not much Ican do about the wide angle effect for those that dont like it, personally I do like it, but I tend to agree about the face and have toned down the mid tone contrast a bit.
