    +1 to Geoff's comment. Here is a screen shot of what Adobe Camera Raw shows about your image; the blue is where the shadow detail has been crushed (i.e. pure black; no detail). You can certainly have areas of very deep shadows in a shot, but this much does not work for me.

    I definitely prefer the second version. There is so much more interesting material for the viewer to explore here.

    Yes it is better but I think I would try a slight crop from the top and right side.

    I agree with Geoff--I think trimming a little would be a plus.
