An evening of cabaret, difficult conditions : very-low, harsh-coloured light and fast movement, needed 6400 ISO most of the time.



The lighting colours were rather harsh, so tried a mono version.

Both work for me although I find that light in the background to be more distracting with the mono option.

I prefer the mono version as I find the mix of red and blue lights on the skin somewhat strange. The way that the monochrome version does to have that behaviour, the image works better for me.

I find that the bright lights behind the subject draw too much attention away from your subject.

The colours will be from the stage lighting and if the objective is to capture the event then colour is the way to go - it also makes the problem bright light less of an issue.

Mono for me too David,

The bright lights are a definite 'draw' for the eye, if only the background dancer had been a little taller and blocked them with her head.

Short of turning to 'art' and doing something radical in PP, when shooting such subjects there's often little chance of being so lucky as to get a 'perfect' composition shot with all elements in the image contributing to the whole.
